Classical or Pop Piano Lessons
If you are undecided about where to start with music, piano is a great place to start. The piano gives a musician access to all of the notes you could ever need and offers a visual approach to learning music. The piano is also just a beautiful sounding instrument that is appreciated in almost any musical context. Below is a list of the various types of lessons and concepts that I teach. Piano Lessons For Kids
I have 10 years experience teaching piano lessons to kids from ages 4 and up. I love being able to make a difference in a child’s life and being a positive influence that they can learn from. I once had an elderly woman tell me that she still remembered her piano teacher that she had at a young age. The idea that my students will carry the knowledge I pass down to them long after I’m gone is exciting and one of the reasons I do what I do. My main goal when teaching children is to inspire a love for the instrument and keep them motivated to improve. I do that by teaching them the basics while also helping them play songs that they know and love. Kids, getting more and more engaged with technology, love the online aspect of the lessons I teach and it fits into their busy schedules without removing them from other activities.
Reading Music/Lead Sheets
Reading music is probably the most important skill you can have as a pianist. It allows you to play any song you can find sheet music for even if you’ve never heard it before. Music notation is the common language that musicians all over the world use to communicate musical ideas. No matter what genre of music you want to play, music notation is a very important part of learning this instrument. Lead sheets are another common form that sheet music can take that is also important for pianists to learn. Commonly found in the pop/worship music space, lead sheets have some music notation but use short-hand symbols for chords progressions. I am fluent in both styles of reading music and am happy to teach both.
Music Theory/Chord Construction
Music theory can be a very daunting topic to learn but I take it one step at a time and try to make it as simple as possible for my students. I like to start by teaching some basic scales and use those as a foundation to learn about chords. In your online piano lessons, you’ll learn how to construct chords using formulas rather than rote memorization. This allows you to go through the process of learning the chords on your own and see why the chords are built the way they are instead of just being told what the notes are.
